One step at a time........

Stage 5........53.5km          Ascent +1375 m        Descent - 1070m

Today as the longest stage............and after 4 days of running, the body was already feeling tired but not beaten.

On a day like today, we never think of the distance as a whole, but rather in small increments.......one foot in front of the other...one step at a time........pacing and consistency was important and so too was sticking together.

It was good to start early, 6am, so we could run in the cooler part of the day. The beginning was all down hill which was a nice way to start, although the legs didn't think so.

Today we would get our first glimpse of the cliff face Tiger's Nest Monastery, we would run around the Paro airport and witness numerous take offs and ladings, wind our way through rice fields being labored by local women, run along and through rivers, endure long stretches of road and intense heat.

It was a long day.......8 and half hours long but with the company of friends and runners we stayed focused and determined..........

I have little to say about this day, words escape me, other than the landscape varied and yes it was tough, I struggled with the heat mostly and indulged in ducking my head in the rivers but with grit and determination we all made it to the finish, exhausted and happy........
The end sadly but with relief was near......
